The Good Fairies of New York

I read the book The Good Fairies of New York a while back. It's a wonderfully strange book, with some really interesting characters. Last weekend I decided to paint a few of them!

The Pomegranate Seeds

I used to love reading my mom's old copy of Tanglewood Tales, and "The Pomegranate Seeds" was one of my favorite myths to read. I'm doing some designs of the story for fun, here are some of Persephone:

Maddie's Monsters

This is my extra assignment for the final lesson:

I'm probably going to make a few more tweaks, but I thought I'd post it. This class has been great and I've learned a lot from the lessons!

bigfoot!

I finished the last assignment! We were given a pencil sketch of the creature, and for assignment 8 we had to do a rough color/lighting sketch. So this is the final piece!

Now I'm working on finishing up my extra assignment.

Lessons 7 & 8

Here are some more assignments from the schoolism.com class I'm taking. This first image was from the assignment. We were given a sketch of the cactus to start from, and used vectors and textures to make this piece:

Then I decided to try the project again with a sketch I did awhile ago. It was fun!

This was the next assignment - the first part of a two part assignment. We were given a sketch of the bigfoot, and had to put in the color scheme and rough lighting. For the next project we will be finishing this color rough.

I wanted to try the lesson again with my own idea, so this is what I came up with. I will finish this piece along with the bigfoot for the final assignment!

I'm excited!

schoolism!

I've been taking an online class at schoolism.com for the past few months (taught by Bobby Chiu). It still has a few assignments left, but I figured I'd post the ones I've done so far! It's a really cool program and I've learned a lot of new techniques. For each assignment, we are given a starting point and then we apply whatever technique we are learning about to the piece to finish it off. So the first piece of each image is what we are given, and the second is of our finished work. So it's not necessarily about how to paint, but more about tools, techniques and tips to use while painting - which is perfect for me, and I've learned a lot so far!

Sorry for the image overload! I'll be posting the rest as I finish them so it won't be as crazy!
