Vacation Sketch

We recently got back from vacation, but it already seems so long ago! Here are a couple things I doodled by the pool:

We also brought back a beautiful little piece of art made from dyed straw stuck to beeswax. If I can tear my eyes away from it long enough to find my camera, I'll try to get a good picture and post it!

Coffee Drawings

Last Friday I went across the street and drew some people! I had to shake off some of the rust, but it was a lot of fun! I'm looking forward to going out again tomorrow. Here are a few pages from Friday:

The Good Fairies of New York

I read the book The Good Fairies of New York a while back. It's a wonderfully strange book, with some really interesting characters. Last weekend I decided to paint a few of them!

Guess Who?

It's been awhile, but I made this guy last weekend! I wanted to try making a paper frame again - I haven't been able to find a shadowbox type frame that is deep enough without feeling bulky, so I think I'll keep making them for now.

The Pomegranate Seeds

I used to love reading my mom's old copy of Tanglewood Tales, and "The Pomegranate Seeds" was one of my favorite myths to read. I'm doing some designs of the story for fun, here are some of Persephone:

Brownstones to Red Dirt

This postcard is going to be part of an auction, with proceeds going help the children of Freetown, Sierra Leone and Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn!

From the website:

"Two colleagues at Blue Sky Studios, David LaMattina and Chad Walker, have created a feature-length documentary about a pen pal program between a group of at-risk sixth graders living in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn and orphans from the war living in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This Postcard Art project is an extension of the their film "Brownstones To Red Dirt" which features children from both schools. The kids in both places have inspired us all to want to do more and so we're putting together an art auction of original postcards based around the same central theme of the film in a fund raising effort to build a school for the orphans in Freetown, Sierra Leone and create a library for the youth at their school in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn."

Maddie's Monsters

This is my extra assignment for the final lesson:

I'm probably going to make a few more tweaks, but I thought I'd post it. This class has been great and I've learned a lot from the lessons!

bigfoot!

I finished the last assignment! We were given a pencil sketch of the creature, and for assignment 8 we had to do a rough color/lighting sketch. So this is the final piece!

Now I'm working on finishing up my extra assignment.
